A transmission clutch is the critical link between the engine and the rest of the drivetrain. It engages and disengages the torque from the engine. For manual transmissions, dry clutches are mainly in place whereas automatic transmissions use a variety of dry and wet clutches. Even dog-clutch solutions that have been used before synchronizations were available have gone through a certain resurgence. However for the last 50 years, the hydraulic torque converter is the most frequently used solution combining comfort and robustness at the same time.
Meldin® seals, bearings and washers from Saint-Gobain Seals are used in clutches due to their robust design and materials that help to ensure the clutch’s function for the lifetime of the vehicle: providing smooth vehicle movement, performing quietly and reducing drive-related vibration and protecting the drivetrain.
