Transmission control units (TCU) are needed for every semi- and full automated type of transmission. Working like a computer, it receives input from various sensors as well as data provided by the engine control unit (ECU) to calculate how and when to change gears in the vehicle for optimum performance, fuel economy and shift quality.
Transmission solenoids are a critical component in these control units. Our solenoid elements (push rods and guide rings) made out of Meldin® VP material are used to replace metal elements in the TCU. These do allow faster movement and thus better control than past solutions. Due to lower stiffness and better sealing ability, the requirements on the surrounding parts are reduced
Our push rods are separating elements between the actuator in a solenoid and the main valve element. They are key in the level of precision and control. Our guide rings are radial bearings for linear oscillating valve solutions. They have to maintain the guidance of the valve element over the application’s lifetime at a high level as well as protect the surrounding sealing elements from the applied forces.
